As the fastest-growing neighborhood in Colorado Springs, the Powers corridor is always expanding through new home developments and shopping complexes to serve more residents. Cinemark movie theater offers the most movie showings in the city and boasts a full-size IMAX screen. The Colorado Springs Switchbacks professional soccer team holds all of their home games at Weidner Field, just across the parking lot from Security Service Field, home of the Sky Sox Triple-A baseball team. Sand Creek Golf Course, Springs Ranch Golf Club, and Cherokee Ridge Golf Course are open year-round to help golfers take advantage of a sunny day even in the middle of winter. For the shopper, department, sporting good, and grocery stores dot every intersection. However, specialty stores abound, as well. Some local favorites include Kirkland's, Escape Velocity Comics, and Colorado Springs Guns and Ammo. Every palette can find something to satisfy their hunger from convenient fast food or drive-through coffee options to the sophistication of Tucanos Brazilian Grill or Jose Muldoon's Mexican Food. Popular watering holes aren't too far away, either, and Rhino's or the Cow always have a seat and a brew ready.
Several different school districts serve the Powers area. While assigned districts depend on the mapping of each subdivision, attendance to most school districts across boundary lines is achievable through application. Falcon School District 49 serves most residents living east of Powers Boulevard, making up the majority of students in the area. District 49 is the fastest growing school district in El Paso County and works to foster academic, athletic, and social success throughout all offered programs. Homes on the west portion of the Powers neighborhood are split between Academy School District 20 and Colorado Springs School District 11.
